In 2019 I happened upon asemic writing (while tumbling down the rabbit hole that is the internet) and was intriqued by this wordless form of “writing” (most often done with ink or paint) that uses grahpic designs but no defined alphabet or specificallly communicative symbols.
The word asemic means “having no specific semantic content,” or “without the smallest unit of meaning.” Therefore the non-specificity of asemic writing presents a vacuum where normally there would be intrinsic meaning - leaving viewers free to endow the work with their own interpretations and content.
Shown in this gallery will be three of my first experiments with asemic writing (having some camera problems at the moment): Terpsichore’s Motto (using natural materials); photos will follow of Butterfly Lyrics (reverse applique), and Words of Wisdom (embroidery).
